Social Media right now is one of the most valuable marketing assets for any brand, and it’s especially true for small businesses and entrepreneurs.
It’s easily accessible, millions of people are using it on a daily basis, and, without using paid advertising, it’s a free way to market your business.
But the question I hear most often from network marketers isn’t whether or not to use social media, it’s how to use it effectively in order to grow their MLM business.

Why Use Social Media?
In a nutshell, utilizing social media for your MLM business provides you with access to a much larger audience than say if you were to attend a face to face event.
Millions of people use social media on a daily basis. They look for answers to their problems, ways to make money online, family-friendly recipes, eco-friendly products, and more.
Which Social Media Platform to Use?
Each social media platform can help you to grow your network marketing business, but not each platform should be used in the same way.
For example, if you are a Beach body coach and focus on supporting mums to get fit from home, you probably aren’t going to find your ideal audience hangs out on LinkedIn. It’s more likely that your audience, mums at home, spend their social media time on Facebook or Instagram.
So, it would be most worth your time sharing your recipes, healthy tips, and live exercises on these two platforms.
In order to know which platform (s) will work best for your niche, you need to start with who your ideal audience is.
- Who are you looking to support?
- What questions do they have?
- Where do they hand out?
- How can you offer them a solution to their problems?
Let’s discuss the different social media channels and their place in Network Marketing:
The most evergreen social media platform, and still the most popular. Facebook works with almost every target audience. Your customer is probably on it, so is her mother and grandmother and her husband and uncles.
If you have a wide audience group, then focus on Facebook. I usually suggest starting with Facebook, and then expanding to other social media channels as you grow.
Some tips to grow on Facebook:
- Create and grow a Facebook group to interact and engage with your audience more personally.
- Join other Facebook groups where your audience is, and interact with them, answering their questions and growing your authority.
- Grow your friend’s list. People watch your MLM journey from behind the scenes. You never know who is silently watching. If they are on your friend’s list, seeing your growth and gaining more exposure to your business, they then have an easy way to reach out to you if they are interested in the future.
Twitter is a social media platform that is dominated by males. There are two males for every female on the platform, and the average age of these users is between 30-50 years.
So, if your target audience is males between the age of 30-50, then Twitter’s the place you should be on.
Some tips to grow your network marketing business on Twitter:
- Post 1-2 times a day
- Use relevant hashtags and create content around trending hashtags
- Engage with others. Reply, Retweet and tag.
- Find your audience and follow them.
Instagram is definitely one of the most popular social media networks and it seems to be growing. It’s one of the best platforms for organic growth, meaning you don’t have to invest in ads.
Instagram has a higher female userbase, and most of them are between the ages of 18-34 years. So if you are aiming to reach a younger female audience, then get active on Instagram.
Grow your Instagram following by:
- Post 1-2 times a day
- Be personal. Focus on lifestyle posts
- Use relevant hashtags.
- Engage with your target audience. Follow them and comment on their posts.
- Post a new story daily.

Pinterest is my personal favourite. Even though technically it is more similar to Google as a pictorial search engine, I’m still going to include it in this list as it’s incredibly valuable.
70% of the users on Pinterest are women, and the majority of these are below the age of 40.
People come to Pinterest for ideas and inspiration. So if you’re going to use Pinterest, fuel their imagination. If you’re selling a skincare brand, post about skincare regime and tips.
Many network marketers shy away from Pinterest because it isn’t quite like other social media platforms. Don’t worry it’s not so difficult, and I end up having so much fun on Pinterest. I’ve done a detailed post on how you can grow on Pinterest.
Snap Chats for the younger audience. Most Snap Chat users are between the age of 12-24. Females dominate the platform more than men.
Snapchat can be a good idea if you are always on it, and know how to navigate through it. Even if you aren’t, you’ll be happy to know it isn’t as saturated as the rest of the social media platforms. There’s a great chance you’ll make it big on Snapchat if you get in and start generating good, useful content. Even silly would do, if it’s entertaining to your target audience.
Yes, I’ve put TikTok in here. Hear me out before you discard it off.
Tik Tok isn’t something most businesses consider as a marketing platform. And that’s exactly why it’s best for network marketing. Get your users to interact with you on an informal platform. Engage with them and build a connection. Selling will come easier after that.
Top Tips to Grow Your Network Marketing Business Using Social Media
When it comes to social media, most of us are often using at least one social media channel on a daily basis. We know how it works mostly, don’t we?
But, there is a distinct difference in using social media as a hobby compared with trying to grow your business.
Make sure to read and review the following top tips which will help you to use social media professionally in order to grow your network marketing business.
Consistent and Professional Image
I would recommend hiring a professional photographer and getting a few shots of yourself. The photo should be of you, not your company logo, and not your pet or baby but YOU.
That’s because a picture of you looks more personal. People relate more with people than with brands. It makes them think the brand is being used by people like them.
Another reason I suggest putting up your own picture is that when promoting a network marketing business, you should always always brand yourself.
So, if for instance, you were to leave the company or the company goes out of business, you don’t have to start from scratch with your next MLM brand. Also, you can add more brands to your business. You could branch into skincare from fitness easily if you keep it about you and not just the brand.
And it also looks less spammy.
MLMs get a bad name because of just that. And it doesn’t work. Put yourself in the same position. When someone keeps posting or messaging you to join their team, it gets annoying after a time.
And nobody buys from an annoying salesperson, so avoid:
- Sending DMs to people who messaged you once to just get to know you.
- Tagging everyone on your friend list whenever you post.
- Auto DMs. They look impersonal and get annoying with time.
- Share everything on your personal profile. Not everyone on your personal profile is your target audience. And when you target anyone and everyone, you look spammy.
Attract, Not Repel
The worst thing you can do to sabotage your network marketing business is selling. Okay, yes you are in the business to sell, but there are better ways to do them.
And that’s attraction marketing.
If you have been in the network marketing business for some time, you already know how that works. Attraction marketing is basically making your brand so attractive that your customers come to you. You don’t have to go running after them.
So, how do we do that?
Let me tell you a story. There was a girl in my high school. Let’s call her the Cheerleader. The Cheerleader was a highly sought figure in the entire middle school. Everyone was under her magic. If she tried on a new brand of gloss, within a week almost every girl carried that lip gloss in her bag.
Even though the cheerleader wasn’t selling anything, girls were still buying it. She was attracting people with her lifestyle, and her choices.
My point is don’t push your product. Show them a lifestyle they will aspire for.
This is one tip that most network marketers are not following, and it can be your ticket to big growth on social media.
Here’s my biggest secret tip: Never mention the name of your network marketing brand on social media. Don’t do it.
What you should do instead is build up curiosity. Post about results and feedback. Post tips and reviews. Humour them. Inform them.
Let the customers think, ‘What brand is she using?’
That’s when your customer will come to you. You don’t even have to go to the customer.
Start A Relationship
Have you ever made a friend on social media?
If you haven’t, then start now. Start making new friends. Start expanding your network, because you are eventually going to market your brand to that same network.
Here’s a little thing you can do to jump-start that relationship process.
Start by making your profile public. Make it easier for people to become your friends. Now choose a group, and post a question. Something that’s easy for people to answer and get the dialogue going.
Some questions you can ask are:
- What’s your biggest fear?
- Would you rather hike in the mountains or lay down on the beach?
- What are you most thankful for today?
- What’s the one thing you want to accomplish this week/month?
- If there’s anything you could change about last month, what would it be?
- Your favourite skincare tip.
When asking questions, try to make them relevant to your industry and niche. Or to your audience.
When people respond to those messages, reply. Start a dialogue. Make friends. Add those people to your friend list.
Understand that people won’t buy from you the minute they see you. Research shows that most of your customers will come to you after at least 3 contacts with you on any social media platform.
A quick important reminder to make here, you are not just adding friends so that you can immediately spam them with your products and why they should join your team.
The idea of adding new friends to your friend’s list is just that, to build new connections and make new friends.
People do not want to be contacted on social media just for you to immediately sell them your products. They want to make a connection with you, have an honest conversation.
But, whilst they are on your friend’s list, they can then see your lifestyle, what it is you are doing, and how you are helping others.
It goes a long way if you build a genuine connection with someone, rather than use them as your next potential team member.
Adding people and immediately trying to make a sale with them is an outdated and quite frankly, an appalling tactic many MLM companies used to teach.
What to Post
If you haven’t created a posting strategy before, you might be confused about what should I post on my social media as a network marketer.
Here’s what you can post:
Think of something that will provide informative value to your followers. Keep it relevant to your MLM industry. For instance, if you are selling protein powder, you can compare how one glass of the protein shake compares with a meal or a shake from say, Starbucks.
Who doesn’t love a bit of humour in their life? Humour posts generate a lot of interest. You can share a short video clip of a stand-up comedy of something that will relate to your audience.
Or share a meme or a humorous anecdote.
New Offers and Products
Every MLM rolls out new offers and products and when they do, inform your users of that product. Talk about its uses and benefits. Tell them how it solves one of their problems.
We are always looking for tips to make our lives easier, right? Think of the life hack videos you have watched, and even tried.
Give tips relevant to your industry. Give them recipes. Find out what problems they are having with your product and try to solve it for them.
Reviews and Feedback
Got a good review of one of your products. Create a graphic of that feedback. A simple graphic text on Canva would do and put it on your social media for your audience to see.
It shows them that the results are possible. And those reviews go a long way to convince your customer to buy from you.
Giveaways are a great way to increase your following also. It’s also a great way to get your products out in the market and get honest feedback about them.
Get your followers to add new people to the page by hosting these giveaways. Give them something worthwhile, and don’t make them jump through too many hoops to get to the prize. For most people, tagging ten friends and liking all your social media pages to get a gift card of your MLM company is probably not worth it.
And when you host a giveaway, offer your best products. You want your winner to love the product, and promote you genuinely amongst her friends and family.

Don’t Be Everywhere
You’ll spread yourself thin. Think of 1 or 2 social media platforms that suit you and most importantly your audience, and stay on these platforms.
Many network marketers make the mistake of opening accounts on all social media platforms in their excitement. And once that excitement dies down, so does all activity on most of those accounts.
And when activity stops, people assume that you aren’t in business any longer.
Say, for instance, your audience is active on Instagram. She hears about you from a friend or in a group and then tries to search for you. Then she sees you aren’t posting any longer and has less than 10 posts, what do you think her impression about you and your brand will be?
I know it’s not going to be impressive enough to get her to buy from you.
So, keep that impression and focus your energies on one social media platform. This will give you time to focus on your business as well.
Follow Your Competition
Always keep a close eye on your competition. On social media, there are two reasons for that. You will get to understand what strategy is working. How they are interacting with customers and what edge you can offer your customers over that of your competition. Review and replicate the good strategy.
Also, your competition is your inspiration. See what content is working for them, and adopt the same on your social media.
